The New Threat to Individual Rights
Senate passed the DNA Privacy Act calling it "the first major new civil rights bill of the new century". When a law is passed it usually means that there was threat to a right and it needed protection. This act is another sign of how fragile right of privacy is in our age. I remember reading this news and thinking how technology is forcing us to redefine privacy: "Privacy no longer can mean anonymity ... Instead, it should mean that government and businesses properly safeguard people’s private communications and financial information." I still think that privacy is being able to reveal yourself selectively, in other words, information produced by my actions is my private property. I also still like the quote that "revealing privacy is a voluntary sacrifice" and I'm still not ready to give up my Forth Amendment right so that FBI can implement a widespread monitoring of 'illegal' Internet activity.
